Why people who work full-time and run a business are awesome!
Whoever said that you can’t do it all has obviously never met a lunch-trepreneur
Lunch-trepreneurs are an incredible breed of person, who dedicate themselves to working full-time alongside setting up their own business.
They dream big, work hard and plan for their long-term goal of quitting working for others and running their own business full-time someday.
How is a lunch-trepreneur created?
A lunch-trepreneur is created out of necessity, often because the person in question has financial or time commitments that make not working full-time not a viable option.
Similar to the mum-trepreneur, they have to be a master juggler to be able to balance the demands on their time, energy and resources.
Regardless of their circumstances, a lunch-trepreneur drives change through their commitment to working hard and sacrificing short term perks for long term gains, which is something to be admired by any aspiring or respected business person – chances are, they might have even been there themselves!

Tips for running a business while working full-time
Timing is everything
When you’re trying to juggle setting up a business and working full-time, there are never enough hours in the day if you don’t structure it properly.
There are only 168 hours in the weeks, so you need to utilise them!
As you have so many commitments already, we need to find out how much time you have to dedicate towards your business without affecting your performance elsewhere.
Before the start of each week, sit down and write down the following:
- Your full-time working hours
- Your family commitments for the following week and the time this will take
- Your personal commitments for the following week and the time this will take
From 168, deduct all of the above, then also take away 56 hours for the full recommended sleeping time and 21 hours for preparing and eating food.
The amount of time left is approximately what you have to dedicate to your business (plus lunch breaks of course).
Now, if you’ve got more time than you thought, wonderful! Use it wisely!
Outsourcing is a brilliant tool for any aspiring business leader who needs more time or faster progress. Some of the strongest businesses that have ever existed were built on partnerships with others, and every single successful entrepreneur that you can think of has had help off someone at some point.
Outsourcing can take the pressure away of feeling like you have to know everything. Yes, no-one should know your business better than you do, but you need to play to your strengths by focussing your free time on what you’re good at.
Need anything else? Hire someone to do it for you and do it well.
You need to work smart to be able to create a fully functioning business alongside working full-time and outsourcing is a great way to do it.
Examples of what you could outsource include:
The recommended intake of water is 2 litres per day.
While everyone knows this to be true, a lot of us still don’t take in enough water which means that we are not physically functioning to the best of our ability.
This includes your thought processes and moods. If you’re balancing a full-time career and setting up a business, you need to make sure that your brain can cope with the demand.
If you don’t drink enough water you will feel more sluggish, your attention span will be shorter, your reactions slower and you will not be able to think as clearly.
All of the above will cost you time and eat into your routine, so don’t let it happen. Stay hydrated!
A great way to do this is to get a 2 litre water bottle so that you can measure your intake more easily.
Is there an app for that?
Smart device users now have access to over 2 million apps that contain a variety of functions which can help you to run your business more smoothly, and remotely.
Why not find some handy accounting software, a social media management portal or even design software so that you can do more with your business ideas on the go!
You’re bound to find something that’ll make your life easier, so why not give it a try?
Look after yourself
There’s no doubt that entrepreneurs are resilient, but when times are hard, it can become easy to neglect yourself and your needs.
You need to make sure that you are your optimal self, so that you can perform to the best of your ability. This means staying on top of the following:
- Your sleeping pattern
- Your eating habits
- Your you time
- Your social time
- Your physical health
- Your mental health
The healthier and happier you are, the more easily you will be able to cope with the demands on your time.
Maslow’s hierarchy of needs is a great visual example of why this is important, as the pyramid clearly demonstrates which needs you have to fulfil before you can get a step closer to “self-actualisation”.
Find a way to stay motivated
Every entrepreneur has a reason why they want to succeed in starting their own business. It could be money, the desire to make a great idea work or the need to build a better life for your family. Whatever it is, make sure that you’ve got something to remind you of that reason when times get hard.
You need to learn what motivates you and makes you more productive. Some people have a picture on their desk, others have inspirational quotes on their walls, you might even have a specific song that gets you ready for the day.
The best person to ask about this one is yourself, so why not write it down as a little safeguard to keep you going on your arduous journey? It all helps!
